Programme

The event starts on Saturday 28 December 2013 at 2 pm and ends on Wednesday 1 January 2014 at 10 pm. There will be a workshop in the afternoon, and themed, facilitated open practice sessions in the evening.

Bonding & Bounding

Contact improvisation workshop with Daniel Mang (London) and Lisa Rasmussen (Copenhagen). Saturday 28 Dec 2013 to Wednesday 1 January 2014, 2 pm - 5 pm (five afternoons)

The physical contact between two or more partners, the relation to gravity, and to the momentum of moving bodies are at the basis of the practice. It's about letting go of excess tension, waking up the reflexes and sense of balance, and working with weight. It is a very subtle way of interacting and negotiating through touch and movement. We will focus on this latter aspect of contact improvisation, thus questions of physical listening, bonding and bounding will be central to our explorations.

Open practice evenings:

All evenings will be facilitated by experienced teachers from the London & wider contact improvisation community.

On the first three, a led warm-up will be followed by open contact improvisation jams. The New Year’s Eve celebration will also include live music, refreshments and... surprises. The last evening will be dedicated to Nancy Stark Smith's Underscore – including an introduction for people new to this practice.

It is recommended to attend the whole workshop (five afternoons) but it’s also possible just to come to the first two sessions (Saturday and Sunday afternoon) and treat it as a weekend workshop. The five evening sessions can be attended individually. Because space is limited, we ask that you register with us even if you intend to come only for one or two evenings. Thank you.
