Programme

Welcoming Warmup
Sunday 26 August 20:00 - 22:00, Main Studio
with Kim Lasdon

We will play, introduce ourselves and explore this beginning together. Taking moments for arrivals, connection, settling in, we will invite wonder, appreciation and openness for our week of work/play with each other.

Contact improvisation morning class
Mon 27 - Thu 30 August and Sat 1 Sept 10:00 -13:00, Main Studio
Daniel Mang, Jenny Moy and Vanessa Cook co-teaching

We will spend some time arranging our bodies so that they are able to fold and meet the floor smoothly and efficiently. Then we will meet the human landscapes of others and investigate how we can have the support of the floor through each other acting as a moving floor. We will see how immediate we can be in giving support, absorbing each others weight and landing. Once we have landed, we are ready to fly. We will fly high and low, investigating the subtle shifts in the body that can become delicious moments of flight.

Monday 27 August 15:00 - 18:00, Main Studio
Drawing a Score

2. Mark and relationship
3. Marking gesture
4. Marking a continuous movement
5. Drawing someone else's gesture
6. The dance in drawing

Sharing the Dance
with Elin Maria Andersson

Who dances contact improvisation? How available is this dance form? During this workshop we will explore and discuss availability - how different bodies and different qualities can share a dance. How and where do we find a platform to dance when each of us has different levels of experience, energy and dynamics? What happens to a dance when our interests and ideas are not in agreement with each other? The workshop will be built on basic excercises used for teaching contact improvisation.

AcroYoga
with Jaqui Wan

AcroYoga combines traditions of yoga, acrobatics and the healing arts. Embodying connection, trust and play, it shares with contact improvisation an awareness of physical form, the exploration of balance and weight-sharing, and the importance of the sense of touch.

Thursday 30 August 15:00 - 18:00, Outside
States of Presence
with Sonja Brühlmann

We will play with the state of presence in the outside world. What does our surrounding feel or look like in that state of open body and mind that we prepare for in a contact impro session? How can we alter the perception of the everyday and how does the surrounding inform the way we behave, move and feel? We will see, not see, touch, interact, feel and possibly evoke little irritations in the daily stream of happenings. How much is needed to transform everyday reality? Every place has different conventions and in the course of the week we will do our exploration in a variety of places, such as a street carnival, a museum or a park.

Journeys and Perception
with Jan Lee

How can we create a journey with and for each other to experience the city as we would do in a contact improvisation jam or Underscore?
We will dance as a group in a score inspired by the Underscore, which lets us travel through the city's public spaces using our group senses and group perceptions to navigate our unknown journey. We will create this journey together, working as one group organism that tracks all its parts and feels and touches the city through our different eyes and angles of seeing. Group and individual intentions, viewpoints, senses and perceptions, journeys, possibilities, functions and acceptance of new ways of being and seeing ourselves together in the city.
